The sun is high, and you’re feeling good! With the change in seasons comes a need to switch things up in the beauty department—what worked for you for the past six months will certainly need an adjustment now. Fall and winter have become synonymous with thicker, dense formulas that help cocoon the complexion in nourishing ingredients. And while we need nourishment year-round, those heavy formulations aren’t necessary in spring and summer because our skin can hold more moisture. So, it’s time to change up your spring skincare routine with a few slight tweaks that will reveal your best complexion. Keep things fresh with these spring skincare tips.
Check it and forget it
Did you know that most beauty products come with an expiry date? Do a little run-through to see how long you’ve had your favourites and take note of which ones should be swapped out. Aside from ingredients losing their efficacy, bacteria can build up on products, which leads to clogged pores and dull-looking skin. So, in the name of a good complexion, make the switch—you won’t be sorry.
*Our extremely important SPF? Sunscreen may last up to three years, but it certainly pays to double-check that it doesn’t expire after 12 months.
*Serums, moisturizers and other complexion treatments will lose their power if they’ve been in use for one year. Consider swapping in a new version after 365 days.
*Unopened face masks can last about two years. But if you’ve opened the packaging, you have about one year. And if it’s a clay mask, which can dry out quickly after it’s been used, consider ditching it after six months.
*Anything that touches your lips (including balms and glosses) has staying power for about two years.
Just because we don’t need thicker lotions once spring arrives doesn’t mean we don’t need hydration. Look to a lightweight serum, like L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power LZR Hyaluronic Acid Serum, to give skin a boost of moisture (think plumper, younger-looking skin) without that heavy feeling.
The best skincare for spring includes a lightweight moisturizer like L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Day & Night Moisturizer, which offers 72-hour hydration in a gel formula. Made with aloe water and three different types of hyaluronic acid, this refreshing boost of moisture was inspired by Korean skincare.
If your SPF needs an update (see above), stick to a lightweight formula like L’Oréal Paris Ideal Moisture SPF 25 oil-free day lotion. With warmer temperatures we tend to spend more time outside, and that requires a good sunscreen that won’t clog pores while it protects skin from sun damage caused by UV rays.
The big reveal
Improve the look of lacklustre skin (thanks, long, drawn-out winter!) by adding a thrice-weekly brightening mask, like L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Cleansing Mask for Dull Skin to your routine. It will help to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores to reveal glowing skin. Made with three mineral clays, as well as charcoal, this treatment helps to draw out impurities in the skin leaving a brighter complexion in its wake.
