If you want to experiment with shorter hair, you don’t necessarily need to reach for your scissors. With just a few bobby pins, you can fake a short hairstyle. Follow these simple steps!
Hair trends come and go with every season, but, right now, the bob is having a moment. Tons of celebs have been seen rocking chin- and shoulder-length cuts on the red carpet. If you’ve always dreamed of getting a bob hairstyle but have been too scared to give it a try, we’ve got some good news for you. By following a few hairstyling hacks, you can have a trendy, no-cut-necessary bob. L’Oréal Paris Canada Hair Artist & Expert Brennen Demelo can help you master the look with a step-by-step guide and video tutorial.
Part 1 – Prep
Step 1: To get this look, start with dry hair that has been styled into loose waves. This will give your mane more texture, hide your pins more easily and make the final effect of the short, pinned hairstyle more realistic. Once you’ve finished styling your hair, spritz on L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Unfragranced Hairspray . This will give your hair more hold so it stays pinned and won’t fall flat.
Part 2 – Style
Step 2: Next up is creating your faux bob. Using your fingers, loosely pull your hair back into a low ponytail. Take a small section of hair and wrap it tightly around the base of your ponytail, hiding your elastic. Then, tuck the ends under the elastic.
Step 3: Take the end of your ponytail and slowly roll it under your hair at the back of your head until it is hidden. After you’ve effectively rolled up your hair, tuck the loose ponytail in towards your head to hide any excess length. Once you’re happy with the position of your ponytail, pin all the hair in place with as many bobby pins as necessary. After this step, you can start to see the shape of your bob coming together.
Part 3 – Finish
Step 4: Begin pulling out small sections of hair at the front of your face to really give the illusion of a bob hairstyle. This will frame your face and help give your hairstyle its overall shape. Play around with it to get the desired style and shape.
Step 5: The last step is essential and will make all your hard work pay off. Spray a light layer of L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Unfragranced Hairspray all over your head, focusing on your pinned ponytail. With just a few spritzes of hairspray and some bobby pins, you’ve created a beautiful DIY bob hairstyle. This look works with different hair textures, but if you have very long hair it will require a few extra bobby pins. This look is great to have in your styling arsenal; it can be dressed up or down and allows you to totally change up your look. Try the faux-bob look at work or at your next big event.
