GET EYEBROWS THAT WOW

Transform your entire makeup look with a few tweaks to your eyebrow routine.

Truth may be in the eye of the beholder, but everyone can use some help when it comes to their eyebrows. Your brows probably need a little assistance—whether it’s some definition, grooming or shaping. Why? Because aside from being one of the biggest trends on the red carpet and the runway, perfect eyebrows can make the rest of your makeup really pop.

What to consider first:

For thin, fine eyebrows, you’re looking to bulk them up and fill them in. Generally speaking, almost everyone looks better with a fuller brow and a natural arch about 45 degrees outward from the pupil. And as we age, our brows shorten near their tails (by our temples), so extended the colour you’re using—whether it’s pencil, powder or wax.

For thicker, more coarsely-textured eyebrows, you’ll need a coloured powder to ensure they’re evened out, tweezers to capture the stray hairs and gel or mousse to keep them in place.

Your best eyebrow bets:

How to determine if you should be using mousse or a waterproof eyebrow pencil? We break down how they all work.

Pencils: If you’re always on the move and love to hit the gym, you most likely gravitate toward an eyebrow pencil, which allows you a mess-free application with lots of control. L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer is an ultra-slim pencil (0.5 mm tip) that allows you to draw the tiniest, finest strokes of hair.

Mousse: A whipped, tinted formula like a mousse is great for thick eyebrows that are patchy in places or need some uniformity, but it’s also excellent for bulking up eyebrows that are on the thinner side. It’s blendable, buildable and extremely natural looking. You can combine a mousse with a pencil if you’re looking for more depth, or wear the mousse solo for a beautiful flush of colour. Try L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Frame & Set, a creamy, waterproof brow pomade to precisely shape the arches and fill in eyebrows for up to 24 hours.

Spoolie: No one should live without a spoolie brush. These sturdy, curved bristles comb brows out of the way when tweezing, set them in place when you’re styling them and diffuse the colour of a pencil so the finish is natural looking. The L’Oréal Paris Brow Artist Xpert Pencil has a triangular tip, which is designed to create the most natural-looking strokes, with a spoolie on the end to gently buff the colour, so your eyebrows don’t look drawn on.

Wax: An eyebrow wax is one of those things you don’t realize you need until you try it. And once you do, you can’t live without it. It’s great for prepping eyebrows for incoming colour but also for crafting a shape. Look for a long-lasting wax, like L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro Kit, which holds eyebrows in place for up to 12 hours. This set also includes a buildable powder, tweezers and an angled brush. An eyebrow kit like this is all you need!

Application 101

  1. When you’re doing your makeup, after you finish your base (a.k.a. foundation and concealer), do your eyebrows first. That gives you a framework so you don’t go overboard elsewhere.
  2. Always groom brows prior to adding colour.
  3. To get your best eyebrow shape, start at the arch and concentrate colour there first.
  4. Then, regardless of your eyebrow shape, blend toward the tail of your eyebrow, extending the colour slightly.
  5. Set brows in place by combing with a spoolie brush, and add a brow mascara where needed.

And there you have it—getting the perfect eyebrow is easier than ever!
