The color on the box is very misleading. I have used other L'Oreal hair dye products and have always been very happy with the results. I wanted to try anothe L'Oreal product. I used 5N and my hair looks almost black. It was a light to medium brown before I dyed it. I will never use the L'Oreal color preference again and will not recommend to anyone.

There are many reasons why haircolor results can come out too dark. Once you have color-treated hair, we suggest following the touch up application method to achieve optimal results. Otherwise, by doing full head application, due to the porosity of the color-treated hair, you are left with a haircolor result that is much darker than intended. The color will fade as you shampoo. We appreciate the feedback which will be shared with others in our company.

Terrible new drippy formula with inaccurate color

I have been using this for decades and found the product great and colours to be very accurate. Not so of late, I've tried two different ash shades which resulted in orange and red tones. These are the same colors I've always used but now this new formula is nothing close to what I've experienced before. Very disappointed and forced to try something else.

5N is way darker than pictured

I have very dark brown, almost black hair already, I'm Asian. I just needed to cover the greys at my roots and it somehow made my hair even darker than its natural colour despite being a "natural brown". Giving it two stars because it doesn't damage my hair at least.

I LOVE this product

I used 6N - natural light brown. I've used Excellence & Preference before, but this was the first time I saw the Nudes collection. I love everything about it. It smelled great, I love the shampoo and conditioner. (I wish they'd sell that separately) My natural color is lt. brown with about 30% gray. This covered my grays well, except a few at my temple, but that looks natural. My hair turned out only slightly darker than light brown. I've been coloring my hair for decades. I know that I always need to use a color lighter than what I want. To get light brown, I usually have to use dark blonde. Not just with Loreal, with other brands as well. If my hair comes out too dark, I found using Head and Shoulders Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo lighten it within 2 or 3 washes but doesn't damage my hair like color removers do. I intend to keep using this product - my hair feels softer than when I used products with ammonia.

J ai acheté 2 teintures N5 et la coloration qui montre sur la boîte et ce que ca donner sur mes cheveux c est vraiment très différent.
Ca donner noir au lieu d avoir une couleur plus cuivré.
Je suis très déçu parce qu en plus de pas aimé ma couleur, j ai une teinture de pkus que j ai payé pour rien car je ne veux pas remettre ca dans mes cheveux

Way too dark

I am having the same experience as one of the reviewers. My hair is medium brown. I used 5 N and it turned almost black. Way too dark and not what was on box. I followed the instructions. I never experienced this with any other products.

Just coloured my hair which is med brown with highlights (old) and it coloured my hair BLACK. It is wayyyyyy too dark. I bought a clarifying shampoo but still Black!!! Never had this before but always use an ash brown dark blonde. This is nothing like the photo on package saying natural brown universal nudes.

BEST hair colour I've used

I picked up shade 4N at my local box store and OMG. BEST hair colour I've ever used!! Easy to apply, the shampoo and conditioner are great, and the results are long lasting! I used this product nearly 2 months ago, and despite lots of time in the lake swimming, out in the sun enjoying summer I'm just NOW noticing a few greys popping thru. Will for sure buy again!

Changed Formula

I was buying the U6, perfect color , U is the only one that is a 6’or 7 that doesn’t pull dark on my light brown hair. They have stopped making U but put the U7 picture on the N7 box. This is nowhere near the same color effect. Turned my hair way too dark. I am now shopping different company. Too bad as I have been a Loreal purchaser for a long time.

5N turns hair almost black!

I tried the 5N and the colour looks NOTHING like the photo. It’s almost black! Very very dark. Not at all the beautiful colour on the box. Very disappointing. I know sometimes box dye is a little dark at first but this is significantly darker. And I’ve seen so many reviews say they had the exact same experience with the 5N universal nudes. The model on the box has such a beautiful hair colour, I’m so sad it ruined my hair. I dyed it for a headshot I need to do in a few days and now it looks horrible. Don’t recommend this shade at all !!!

Turned my hair BLACK. Did a strand pretest. Applied all over as per instructions since I was going darker. Left on 20 minutes. My hair was a very light brown before. And my hair WAS in good shape. Always had good luck with L’Oreal in the past. Have been going to a salon for years, but liked the look of this color so decided to give it a try. What a MISTAKE .Saw that others had the same experience. Bad batch?? Have washed my hair at least 30 times and barely a medium tone now . In the past, I had dyed my hair many many times I and have never had such an experience. Know that this was not a fault of mine.I’m in my 60s and it really makes me look washed out. Lost my faith in L’Oreal. very unhappy.

I'm extremely disappointed with this hair color product. I chose the light brown shade, expecting it to cover my grey hair and give me a vibrant, warm look. Unfortunately, the color didn't take at all, and my hair remains its original black color and didn’t work on grey hair. Despite spending hours researching and selecting the right product, and investing money, I didn't see even a 10% change. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable hair color solution

J'ai acheté ce produit et je ne suis pas satisfaite c'était supposé être châtain et du coup c'est noir qui en n'a sorti au bout du compte je ne suis pas très contente parce-que si j'avais voulu être noir j'aurais pris du noir non !! I purchased this with the hope of coloring my gray and having a safer alternative to the smell of the original color excellence. I tried it 2x with the second being a longer sit time and still my gray on the front and sides of my hair are still gray. The original color excellence would cover all gray with no issues. Flat color, came out too dark

This came out way TOO DARK. I have gray roots and usually medium brown hair that tends to get brassy with boxed hair dye. I have found that light brown doesn’t cover my roots as well (they come out lighter than the rest of my hair) so I went with Natural Brown. I purchased this formula because of the “universal” effect having ash in it and the color looked multidimensional. However! This hair color is quite flat and again way too dark. I gave two stars because the application was simple and went well. I like that it came with not just a conditioner but also a gentle shampoo. There was no unpleasant odor. One of the gloves ripped but I always have extra on hand.
I might try a shade lighter when it’s time to refresh my color, but I am apprehensive!

Great, healthy feeling hair after using

Gorgeous, natural and rich looking colour. I used 7N dark natural blonde, and it covered a previous hair colour I used only a few days ago, which was a dark copper blonde that I wasn't happy with. This colour neutralized the red in my hair without overcorrecting the tones and my hair is a natural looking dark blonde, almost a light brown but with dimension. I love the results! And the shampoo and conditioner that comes with it made my damaged hair feel really healthy again, so bonus! Love it!

Pas fidèle à la charte de couleur

Je me suis procuré cette couleur qui était censé être un ton plus foncé que celle que j'utilisais précédemment (6N). Je désirais passer d'un blond foncé vers le châtain afin de limiter les reflets roux.
J'ai eu la, mauvaise surprise de découvrir que la couleur 5N, qui est censé être châtain naturel, est en fait brun très foncé, presque noir.
J'aurai besoin d'un démaquillant capillaire et un bleach pour récupérer le désastre, ce qui nécessitera un rendez-vous en salon avoisinant les 200$+.
Moi qui pensais économiser en faisant moi-même ma coloration.
Selon moi, il s'agit d'une couleur de niveau 4, voire peut-être même 3.

Easy to use!

I received this as a gift from Topbox and I love the shade of this colour! The kit was easy to use as well. My hair is naturally darker so when I applied it I did try to process it a bit longer to see if there would be any lift. I didn’t add any bleach or anything extra. There is definitely some sort of colour that came through but I would love to try other colours! It did leave my hair feeling nice and soft though. Again, the kit was easy to use and folllow! nice finish

I received this product for free from Topbox Circle for testing and review purposes. I haven't dyed my hair.
in over 6 months so I had zero expectations going in. The dye is easy to use and has little to no mess application. I used it on my dyed part (dirty blonde) and haven't touched my natural hair with some grey zones(dark brown). It did a great job providing beautiful shine and highlights, leaving my hair nourished and put together. The scent is rather tolerable and the formula didn't stain my skin too much. My only concern is the amount of dye is rather small so it's best to use 1,5 boxes for better coverage

I have black hair, so I wasn’t very hopefully on the outcomes. The hair dye did lighten my hair a little bit but not a noticeable amount. Only the gray hair took the colour. Overall, this is the normal experience I have with box dye. I received this product for free from Topbox Marketing for testing and review purposes.

When hair is already color treated especially with black, one will not be able to lighten it by applying a lighter color. With color such as Excellence Crème if applied on natural hair one should be able to lighten up to 2 levels.

This shade is a nice dark red that is subtle. The application process was easy. What I liked is that it left my hair feeling soft, I especially like the conditioner and will continue to use it. A little to natural for me, BUT....

I received this product for free from Topbox Marketing for testing and review purposes. I am so thankful because I needed to do my hair really bad to cover up the gray hairs showing. Thank you so much L'Oreal also. This product is great!! The smell wasn't overpowering like other dyes. It has covered the hair that I was worried about 100%. It made my hair really shiny as well, and I loved that. Normally, I would have gone with a darker and more bold red, but this was a nice color. Only issue I have is that I have very long hair and needed another box to completely finish my head, but it was okay. I got the idea of the product for sure. I love L'Oreal products, whether it's makeup or hair care/color. They definitely deliver on their products. Thank you, TopBox and L'Oreal, for the chance to try this color out.
