Trending Now: Shimmer-Loaded Inner Eyes with Highlighter

Highlighter has become a makeup essential for adding a luminous finish to cheekbones, but this easy beauty hack will show you how to rock your favourite highlighter on your lids.

Once used only for stage makeup and photo shoots, highlighter has found a new role off the stage in the beauty industry over the past few years and become a staple in everyday makeup routines. Countless highlighting palettes have hit the market offering dewy, radiant skin with the swish of a brush. Highlighting has also become a must for any eye makeup look. By adding a hint of shimmer to the inner corner of your eyes, you can achieve a complete, balanced makeup look. If you’re looking for eye makeup ideas, a way to take your smoky eye to the next level or a quick trick to look more awake in the morning, we’ve got you. Follow along with our video tutorial and step-by-step guide to learn how you can incorporate highlighting into your morning primping routine.

Step 1: Begin this eye makeup tutorial with bare lids or prep your eyes with an eyeshadow primer to ensure your look stays put. Choose the eyeshadow brush you want to use—either a fluffy, dense one or a smaller blending one—and put it aside. Reach for L’Oréal Paris Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray and spritz a light layer onto the tip of your eyeshadow brush. One spritz should be enough to slightly dampen it—you don’t need to soak it.

Step 2: Once you’ve given your brush a soft layer of setting spray, dip into L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Shadow in Iced Latte. By adding water to your brush, it will amp up the metallic finish of the powder for an extra-shimmery finish.

Step 3: Using your damp brush, buff the colour into the tear duct area of the eye for a halo of metallic colour. This will open up the eyes and make them look bigger. For a more dramatic look, blend the colour along the upper and lower lash lines and buff onto the lid for a natural, radiant eye makeup look. Finish off with two coats of black mascara on the upper and lower lashes to bring the whole look together.

This technique works on a bare eye as an easy everyday no-makeup makeup look that will make you look polished and put together, but it can also be incorporated into any eyeshadow look, from a smoky eye to a retro cat-eye style. Applying a hint of liquid metallic to your eyes gives a glam finish to any look. You can try this highlighting method with any light shimmery shade, or you can even wet some of your other metallic shadows to give your eyes a wet look. There’s no wrong way to add highlighter to your eye makeup—the glitzier the better!
