Trending Now: How to Add Subtle Pink to Blonde Hair

If you have blonde or light hair, change it up with some pink hair dye. But, if you’re afraid it’s going to be too much, try keeping it soft with just a hint of pink. Here’s how to add just enough of the pretty hue to keep it subtle.

Ever since pop stars made pink hair such a huge trend in the late ‘90s, we’ve been obsessed with the rosy hair colour. It’s edgy, without being too punk, and it’s feminine without being too cheesy. That said, the pink hair beloved in the ‘90s was definitely a statement – super bright and pigmented, and designed to stand out. If you’re looking for something more modern and subtle, there are lots of softer hair colour ideas you’ll likely love. One in particular is opting for more of a rose-blonde look rather than bright fuchsia. That way, instead of looking like you used a pink highlighter as a colour reference, you’ll have people guessing at what’s different and whether you have any hair colouring on your strands at all. It’s much more fun to be a little mysterious, and a whole lot more grown up to go with a paler shade of pink. It’s also totally on trend according to Instagram. There’s no shortage of beauty pros, influencers and celebs sporting rosy-blonde hair. Herewith, we show you how to apply a more subtle pink hair colour overtop of already-blonde hair with tips from L’Oréal Paris Canada Hair Artist & Expert Brennen Demelo, using L’Oréal hair colour.

Steps for Pink Hair Prep:

Step 1: Starting at the front of your part, separate your hair into two horizontal sections. Brennan’s expert tip is to make your part into a zigzag pattern. You can do that by using the handle of a teasing comb and veering left and right as you part your hair.

Step 2: From the two sections you just created, separate out the section of your hair that’s right near your hair line. You want it to be about ½ inch thick, and it should run from your part to your ears.

Step 3: Grab that teasing comb again and backcomb your hair from the mid-lengths to the roots to add lots of volume and to separate the individual hairs a little.

Steps for Pink Hair Dye Application:

Step 1: Choose a soft pink hair colour, like L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference Rose Blonde Collection. It’s the perfect, barely-there shade that will show just enough on people with blonde hair.

Step 2: Fully saturate your hair with your L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference Hair Colour, all the way from the mid-lengths to the ends. To blend it really well, gently massage the hair colour into your strands in a circular motion.

Step 3: Leave the hair colour on for about 25 minutes, and then rinse it thoroughly. If you have lots of greys, leaving it on for an additional five or 10 minutes will help cover them. Avoid heat styling or washing it for the first 24 hours to help that pink hair dye stick for that full eight weeks of colour.

Now that you have your new, super stylish (but subtle) pink hair, there are so many ways to do your hair to show off the pop of colour. Wear it down with soft waves, and you’ll look like a mermaid. Or tie it up into a sleek ponytail and you’ll look like you just stepped off the runway. And if you’ve opted to only dye sections of your hair, either the underneath layer or highlight-style, braiding it will look amazing. Whatever you do, your new pink hairstyle will keep you looking fresh and on-trend.
