Your guide to preventing maskne

Maskne is the largest skincare problem of 2020. Maskne describes the combination of wearing a mask and the side effect that can come with it – acne. It has become a common problem this year as people around the world wear masks to prevent the spread of the virus.

As we continue to do our part by wearing masks, our pores can be clogged by the heat, dirt, and sweat accumulating under it. Often times this results in breakouts on the bottom portion of our face.

To kick maskne to the curb we have worked with our L’Oréal Paris Skin Care team to find a way to prevent it so that you can keep wearing your mask and protecting the people you love. Because we believe that we must all do our part in preventing this virus, and wearing a mask is necessary now more than ever!

L’Oreal Paris’s Daily Anti-Maskne Routine:

  1. Cleanse your face

Cleansing your face before putting on your mask is the best way to make sure you are removing any dirt, oil or bacteria that could have accumulated during your day. Our go to cleanser is the Revitalift Cleanser, which is a foaming cleanser that gently removes makeup and deeply cleanses away daily buildup of dirt and oil. It is suitable for all skin types and has the added benefit of Vitamin C, which soothes & smoothes the skin.

  1. Moisturize

Once your face is clean, the next step is to moisturize to prevent any irritation that can be caused by the mask rubbing against the skin. It is especially useful for anyone who has dry or sensitive skin. We suggest using the Revitalift Triple Power LZR Cream Fragrance-Free, enriched with Pro-Retinol, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid.

  1. Mask proof makeup

Check out our recent blog post about the best makeup to wear with a mask. From bold and beautiful eye makeup, to transfer proof makeup that won’t stain your mask, we’ve got it all!

  1. Fresh mask, for a fresh face

Once we have cleansed, moisturized and applied our favorite mask proof makeup it is time to hit the town, but not without a mask, of course! We suggest always wearing a freshly cleaned mask, as it will avoid the spread of bacteria that may have built up from prior wear.

  1. Post-mask cleanse

After the mask is off and you are in the comfort of your own home it is time for the most important step in your routine, cleanse! Throw your mask in the wash and cleanse your face with a light cleanser, like micellar water. This is our favourite cleanser, post mask because it is extra gentle on the skin and has the powerful benefit of micelle molecules. These molecules cluster together to surround and lift away dirt, makeup and other impurities. It also is free from oil, soap, alcohol and is dermatologist tested.

  1. At home Clay mask

Treat yourself after a long day by trading your facemask with our clay masks. Each one has an active ingredient that targets different skin concerns. The Pure-Clay Charcoal mask purifies skin in just ten minutes and has the added benefit of charcoal that draws out impurities and brightens skin.

  1. Night time skin routine

Night time is the best time to revitalize your skin as it may be one of the only time that you can let your skin breath without a mask! Start with our daily exfoliating 10% Pure Glycolic Acid serum to renew and revitalize your skin. Glycolic Acid is known for its exfoliating properties and therefore keeping the pores clear. Finish off your night routine with our new Revitalift Triple Power Overnight Mask that has triple the power with pro-retinol, vitamin c, and hyaluronic acid! In addition, you can look at our blog post that details which products that are essential for your skincare routine!

Now that you know how to protect and cleanse your skin, we know you are ready for anything 2020 throws at you. Because I’m worth it.
