Get the Look: Green Gaze

A fresh colour and bold shape join forces to put a spin on the smoky eye. Read on to learn how to create this incredible look designed by L’Oréal Parisglobal makeup director Val Garland.
Who says a smoky eye has to be limited to shades of black and grey? Or that it can’t be slightly architectural? On a mission to rewrite beauty rules, L’Oréal Parisglobal makeup director Val Garland has adeptly used colour and shape to edit the traditional technique. Here, in a look she created for Cindy Bruna, L’Oreal Paris’s new ambassador, Garland has swapped in a rich olive hue and clean lines to create a green smoky winged eye. The effect is totally glamorous and definitely unexpected. Ready to get your glam on right now? Put the ModiFace Try On tool to work! The unique virtual experience allows you to test this exact look with just a few clicks. Then read on to follow the simple steps and get helpful tips to DIY this dramatic combo of colour and shape at home. Unlocking your inner makeup artist has never been easier!

Step 1

Start by prepping your skin. Massage in an eye cream like L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power LZR Eye Cream to smooth and lift the undereye area.

Step 2

Next, perfect your complexion. Think foundation is the only option? Think again! A full-coverage concealer that effortlessly matches your melanin, and undertone, can easily be used where needed to even out your skin tone. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer is available in 25 shades, and the waterproof formula nixes redness, undereye circles and dark spots. Use the XL-sized doe-foot applicator to concentrate on areas where discoloration commonly appears, such as around the eyes, the nose and the mouth. Since your eyes will carry the focus with the colourful eyeshadow, aim to create an even 360° canvas for eye makeup by using concealer at the outer corners of the eyes and on the lids. Blend out the transfer-resistant cream formula with your ring finger or a small makeup buffing brush for a flawless finish.

Step 3

An amazing smoky eye is like an amazing black-and-white photo: It’s all about balancing light and shadows. And that artistic strategy doesn’t change when you’re adding colour to the mix or working toward a daring shape. First, choose L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24HR Eyeshadow in Eternal Black as your base shade to add depth and create a template for the powerful winged shape of this look. Use a medium shadow brush to apply the shimmering charcoal powder on the upper eyelid, starting close to the lash line. Then work to steadily build out the wing, sculpting it toward the tail end of the eyebrow. Need a cleanup crew? A cotton swab dipped in L’Oréal Paris Micellar Water Complete is an easy way to tidy lines and perfect each shadowy shape.

Step 4

Next, add in light and colour with L’Oréal Paris Color Queen Oil-Eyeshadow in Keep On. Use your ring finger to press the oil-infused green cream onto the orb of the eye, and then pick up a small smudger brush to blend the product. Extend it beyond the crease line and enhance the winged silhouette. This full-on look encircles the whole eye; use the same brush to add softly diffused colour along the lower lash line.

Step 5

Now you’re set for a few finishing touches! Tightline your upper and lower lash lines with a long-lasting eyeliner like L’Oréal Paris Le Liner Signature in Noir Cashmere, and give lashes a hefty boost with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Blackest Black. Garland’s tip: The key to making this makeup look “feline and fierce” is to really smudge your liner into the lash lines on your top and bottom lids—don’t miss any spots! This will help add definition and depth to your look.

Step 6

Finally, frame your artistry with L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set. The volumizing gel-mousse formula has an angled skinny brush that builds natural-looking arches.

Step 7

With so much action happening around your eyes, the rest of your face shouldn’t compete for attention—it just needs a little warm-up! Garland chose subtle gold highlighting and naturally beautiful rose tones for cheeks and lips to enhance Cindy’s complexion. Try L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glow Amour Drops in Golden Hourto dial up your inner radiance. A few drops blended along your cheekbones is a shortcut to an instant glow. Then, apply L’Oréal Paris True Match Blush in Subtle Sable to the apples of your cheeks to create a warm halo.

Step 8

On Cindy’s lips, Garland used L’Oréal Paris Rouge Signature Lipstick in I Rule. The soft-pink shade not only perfectly pumps up her natural lip colour but also serves as an ideal accessory that doesn’t take away from her incredible green smoky winged eye look.
