Milla's career began when, aged nine, she was cast in The Night Train to Kathmando, by Robert Wiemer. At the age of fourteen, she starred in William A. Graham's, Return to the Blue Lagoon. In 1994, Milla released her first album, The Divine Comedy. In 1997 she played the captivating Leeloo Dallas in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. In 1999, Besson cast her in his Joan of Arc, a role which yielded good reviews. In 2001, she played a role in The Million Dollar Hotel, by Wim Wenders, and also appeared in Redemption, by Michael Winterbottom as well as in Ben Stiller's Zoolander. Milla then took on the role of Alice in Resident Evil in 2004. Five years later, she came back in David Twohy's A Perfect Getaway. In 2010, she starred alongside Robert de Niro in John Curran's thriller, Stone. Milla also worked with William H. Macy in the independent comedy, Dirty Girl.

As an actress, singer, model and designer, Milla also takes an active part in charities, especially The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the American Fund for Aids Research, the African Wildlife Organization and Sophie's Voice Foundation.
