Each day, men’s skin is weakened by shaving.
As we know, daily shaving is hard on men’s skin: it is a repeated aggression to the skin, making it sensitive and fragile. Shaving constantly stresses a man’s skin: the external cellular layer of the stratum corneum is eliminated before cells naturally flake. This acceleration of the cellular turn-over exposes cells to the exterior, which they were not « programmed » to resist to these effects*.
In addition to this destruction of the epidermis, there is an alteration of the surface protecting hydrolipidic film. This film constitutes a kind of « natural cosmetic » for the skin by protecting it from external aggressions. For men, shaving and cleansing alters this film or eliminates part of it. This will cause dryness, skin dehydration, a heating feeling, tighteness and irritation, commonly known as «razor burn».
Therefore, men’s first preoccupation is skin dehydration due to daily shaving. This is why they usually use products to soothe razor burn.
